Differences between BA Acting Courses?

My DD is looking at applying for 2016 entry to drama school. She's looked at pretty much all of them and had narrowed her choice down to 5. She's then had a meeting with head of drama at college who's said she would tell them if they (in her opinion) had no chance. She's told DS that she needs to im...

Re: Arts Award- Can you help?!

Surreptitious - a correlation between what? Children in the performing arts and mental health issues? I'm afraid you may not find too many people on here happy to help you. Perhaps most of us have a big chip on our shoulder but you have to bear in mind the response of many people to what our ...

Re: Do LAMDA exams help get you into drama school?

Thanks Totallyclueless (which incidentally, you are quite obviously not!!) Not really Welshmum - just said that was what drama schools were looking for. It was a bit of a rushed conversation TBH. As I say, I think it was her way of getting off the topic of them representing DD. I can understand thei...

Re: Do LAMDA exams help get you into drama school?

Thanks totallyclueless! My DD's head of theatre at college runs extra curricular classes next year for those hoping to do to drama school. Helps with monologues etc so I think that might fit the bill. As you teach LAMDA can ask you - as an A level student DD would not want to be running around prete...

Do LAMDA exams help get you into drama school?

Hi all, your thoughts would be much appreciated here. It was suggested to us last night (by DS's agent in fact) that DD (age 17 and taking A level theatre) should start taking LAMDA exams to help her get into drama school next year. This isn't something I've heard suggested or discussed before so be...

Re: DD applied for a modelling jobm - should I go too?

Have told my DS that he can start going to jobs by himself when he's 25 but then he is my 'baby' :D My DD is also 17 - suspect she'd want me with her and I'd certainly be happier - if your DD is happy for you to go then go- save yourself the worry.

Yes Yes TaylaB - what are your rates Katymac? (remember we're the parents of (hopefully) soon-to-be poor struggling artistes!)

I think it must have done Kaymac as it would appear you are no longer speaking the Queens English ;)

Re: Not-so-lovely Chaperones?

Certainly no offence taken her Elbee :) You should feel able to express your thoughts & feelings - as I said before - the differences make the world go round. What I would say is that in my experience there's a big difference between a one-to-one (or 2 or 3) TV chaperone and stage productions wh...

Re: Not-so-lovely Chaperones?

Elbee, despite my previous post it does sound to me as though this woman may be struggling with her role, especially telling is that she's shouted at other chaperones! Your DDs happiness is the most important thing and not worth sacrificing for any role. I would try speaking to her agent and, if you...

Re: Not-so-lovely Chaperones?

Hmm.. OK this probably won't go down too well with some people but I'm going to have to back up Jomist here. I too am a chaperone but rarely look after any but my own child. That said I come across as strict to others I know. Last year my DS was lead in a show that had a large cast of children in a ...

Re: Not-so-lovely Chaperones?

Not had this experience with chaps as ours have been lovely but similar to TaylaB's post it's surely a bit like school? And sometimes, you find the strictest teachers are the nicest in the end. Good luck!

Re: Anybody ever been to a premiere?!

Gosh no, DS wasn't in this film! He's in a Disney Channel series so they invited some of the cast - promo work. Imagine him being in a film with RDJ - I'd be at the head of the queue of people wanting to chaperone!

Re: Anybody ever been to a premiere?!

Well we went and we had a very exciting time! I came with a few feet of Mr Downey Jnr (swoon!). DS loved it and the film was phenomenal (if it's your sort of thing of course). As for what to wear - I shouldn't have worried nor gone to as much effort as I did - there was everything from jeans & T...
