Re: Dates on Spotlight

I'd do the reverse :)

Put it in the credits (because they've been cast and done the work) and put it in " currently appearing " nearer the date (with a broadcast date) so that CDs know when they can watch it.

Re: extra work

Definitely best to join extras agencies rather than relying on any websites.

You can join more than one. It depends a bit where you're based.

I'm sorry to hear that :(

One of the few sites to check information *before * putting it on the Web.

Re: Commercial conflict.

It's impossible to know for certain and there are too many variables for them to make blanket statements really. In all probability, it will mean you're out of the running BUT there could be times when you're not. It depends how recognisable you were, for one thing. It also depends on the subject of...

Re: Time To Shine Agency

I wouldn't worry. It's just spam It's like those "your recent accident" texts and calls. They hope to catch someone who fits. If they're asking for name and details, it probably means they don't already have them! Some "agencies" do post bogus casting notices on sites like Starno...

Re: Acting or Musical Theatre?

I don't think there's an easy answer about whether one can make a living doing MT or acting. The statistics are alarming. Only about 8% of Equity members in work at any one time, most actors earn very little in a year (less than 5000 from acting) etc etc. The hard truth is that most actors - at leas...

Re: Acting or Musical Theatre?

I think your instinct is probably right: she would have a lot of catching up to do to compete with triple threat performers who have been dancing for years. Dancing and movement skills will be useful whichever path she takes though. There's nothing to stop her applying for both MT and drama courses ...

Re: *Newbie - First Time Post*

In my opinion it doesn't matter a jot whether it's Trinity or LAMDA for *acting*. What's important is the teacher. 9 is really young in terms of acting. Having fun and performing in groups /youth theatre/am dram is likely to be the most useful in my opinion. If she decides in the future to apply to ...

Definitely one to avoid.

Don't pay up front fees to an agent and don't pay for portfolios.

Re: Difficult situation - what do I do?!

If you're 23 or under you can get a DADA still even if you've had a student loan. I know some of the particulars have changed since I got one, but you can still get them. You can also get a hardship grant under some circumstances. Very definitely worth checking the particulars if you're young enough...

Headshot hunter website is a useful resource.

Hello there. It's probably better to post in "General" if you're not sure which section :) - though if you have a browse through posts you'll see what tends to go where. This section is (I think ) intended for posts about the administration of the site. Re: extra work. All actors and extra...

Re: creating a showreel

Another thought re: material - in case it helps you to choose or write something. Some of the most interesting work can be when the actor is saying one thing, but thinking another. The camera is brilliant at picking up what's going on underneath a speech. I took part in a class (as an actor) for fil...

Re: creating a showreel

Monologues are not the ideal thing for a showreel, but if you are planning to organise and shoot it yourself they're probably the best thing to start with. The reason agents are interested in seeing showreels are that they are a quick way of judging screen acting ability and assessing the sort of ro...

Re: Drama Schools - 2017

My son and daughter in law went to RADA and I know people who've been to LAMDA and BOV. All excellent schools. I don't know much about ALRA but have heard some mixed reports. HOWEVER, all schools have good and bad features and aspects that suit some students and not others. There could equally be mi...
