Re: Auditioning for 2016

Ds has decided against auditioning for drama school but if he had GSA is the place that would have delivered everything he could possibly want - a gorgeous campus university outside London with fees fully covered by the student loan and a training recognised and sought after by West End productions....

Re: Wide fitting tap shoes - any advice?

Ds has wide feet and has always been OK with Bloch. It is worth finding a shop the first time you buy them to try them on and get your head round the sizing compared with say Clarks sizing, then you can order online for subsequent pairs. They are expensive but resell very easily on eBay. I think we ...

Re: Auditioning for 2016

I'm not quite sure why I'm defending Surrey Uni but I did like it. Their prospectus says they are 6th in The Guardian league table for 2015, 11th in the Times/Sunday Times table, and 12th in The Complete University Guide. The only course I can find that asks less than AAB is Nursing (BBB). Even Spor...

Re: Auditioning for 2016

They have a certain number of places a year they can give to exceptionally talented people without the right qualifications. I think they said two! And those were allowed by the university only after hard negotiation

Re: Auditioning for 2016

As you say hecouldshine, there is more competition for drama schools than for Oxbridge, but GSA are the only school that require such a high level which personally I think is a draw back to the school. Even if my son had been capable of getting the required grades, I would probably have worried the...

Re: Auditioning for 2016

Jaybeeyellow I feel for him but the prospectus says the standard offer for gsa is AAB so he was fortunate to only be set one A with ABB for his offer. This is the contextual offer (one grade lower for schools not in the top 60% for A level results). They get 1000s of applications - fiercer competiti...

Re: Auditioning for 2016

The Wilkes. Academy in Swindon is relatively new but offers excellent training . It has student halls and is often generous with scholarships . It is run by Jonathan Wilkes and has Ant and Dec as patrons , take a look at the website x Think the director of YMT's current production Macbeth, Stuart H...

Re: YMT V NYMT?

When we went to gsa open day NYMT and YMT were mentioned in the same breath at the talk on the Musical Theatre BA when talking about what experience candidates applying might have. Sorry, not sure if that makes sense #-o but they weren't really differentiating between the two in terms of usefulness ...

Re: September 2015

Oh that's tough jaybeeyellow. I'm sorry to hear that. We went to the musical theatre BA talk at the Open Day and they explained that the academic requirements were placed on gsa by the university when they amalgamated with it, in order to have the uni degree validated. I suspect they felt much the s...

Re: September 2015

It's probably too late for anyone on here but I just wanted to point out that gsa's (University of Surrey) new Actor Musician course is in Clearing - first year they're running it so I suspect it just wasn't known about. So if anyone has the quadruple threat course requirements then maybe worth look...

Re: Drama Degree at Uni or Drama School?

Had a really interesting time chatting to some students at the Durham University open day in the little assembly rooms theatre yesterday. The extracurricular drama the students do sounds amazing. They had written, produced and acted in work, taken it to Edinburgh, performed it for the public and were...

Actor musician BA at GSA?

This seems to be a new course and the prospectus and website say subject to accreditation. Does anyone know anything about it and the pending accreditation?

I bet she would feel happier to have you near by Katymac. And your instincts to be there sound sensible. Once she knows the ropes and feels comfortable then you could leave her to it.
