Re: Split-soled ballet shoes

At the school my DDs attended split soles were not worn until grade 6. Its only about 6 years ago that the RAD started allowing them to be worn in exams for lower grades. I think the usual thinking between full sole or split sole is that the full sole makes the foot work harder and therefore helps w...

Re: Dd struggling - advice

I feel for both your DD and you as we have been there too. My DD is a dancer and really struggled with the acting when she first started her course - visually shaking through most of it. I will message her and ask if she has any tips to help your DD through it but she is in install on a ship at the ...

Re: Low pay/no pay vs you have to start somewhere

I wondered about Mandy as it used to be Dancers Pro before they got taken over and there used to be quite a few on there.

You could also keep an eye on entsweb website and openauditions.co.uk.

Good luck.

Re: Low pay/no pay vs you have to start somewhere

unfortunately there will always be the low paid/for experience jobs - certainly as long as there are people willing to do them. Rather than the rates of pay you mention your DD would perhaps be better doing some promo work - tell her to join Promo Fos on facebook or similar - that will be a minimum ...

Re: Medical insurance

We had insurance through AXA PPP for the 1st 2 years of DDs training - a basic policy that you then add or remove option blocks to to tailor it to your requirements- we added the 'physio option block'. We had a claim on that policy for physio and found them quick and efficient. For DD's final year w...

Re: CPA Closure and other college’s responses

It is indeed heartening to see so many colleges reaching out and offering auditions - including some of the better known ones like Urdang and Bodyworks. I've saw too that Scene II Performing Arts are putting on a special open evening next Monday and have promised to honour scholarships for any stude...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

Marissa - when my DD was at Hammond (she graduated before degree course started) there was no charge for the early morning ballet sessions (regardless of funded or self funded for the diploma). When she was there it was RAD ballet - 2 classes of 2 grades each week - so you could go to all 4 if you w...

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

I would say that with 11 colleges on the list, you have plenty. I would be looking now at the audition requirements for each place if you can - some may require photos, solo songs, solo dances, monologues - start preparing as term time gets very busy. Some colleges let you choose a preferred auditio...

Didn't think it was rude, don't worry. I thought of your DD as soon as I saw it. She might also like to register with the website openauditions.co.uk - its fairly new but number of auditions appearing on there keeps increasing - oh and free!
Good luck

Re: Reserve vs offers

As far as I am aware, if you start a degree course but realise that the degree is not for you, or that the university is not for you, you are able to change. If you wish to stay at the same place and change course, it depends very much on where you study, if you meet the entrance requirements and if...

Re: Reserve vs offers

My gut feeling would be to accept the Rose Burford offer - a degree offer rather than for a foundation course. If once the course has started and he has settled into it, he still feels it is not quite right for him, he always has the option of applying for Central next year and dropping out at the e...

Re: How do you get good video for showreels?

Is your DD not able to get footage herself from her college of any college shows she performs in? Or is it work she is doing outside of college?
Have a good look at some of the showreels on youtube so you can see for yourself what sort of footage works and what doesn't.

Re: Level 6 diploma or BA Hons in Musical Theatre?

Funding is one major difference. Level 6 diploma is either self funded or with a DADA (dance and drama award). A DADA is a an award, not a loan so nothing to pay back. The amount varies as it depends on parental income for parental contribution on a sliding scale. Not everyone offered a place on a l...

Re: Mens Dance Wear

Might be worth contacting Dancique in Birmingham - I know they stock menswear but not how much -they obviously supply to Elmhurst and BOA. Stardust Dancewear in Lichfield? are the suppliers for The Hammond in Chester - though not sure if they do menswear as it is probably more boywear there for the ...
