Re: 16 or 18
Hi DanceDiva I can't be a huge amount of help because although my DD is 16 and is in her first year at Dance/MT college, she is still living at home and commuting every day (much to her disgust!). However, there are a number of 16 year olds on her course who do live in (the college insists that the ...

Re: Applying for 2013
I think Bird are renowned for their bad admin!! It is quite a big year group at Bird too! There are 88 students split into 4 groups of 22 (15 girls, 7 boys in each). The groups are streamed by tap ability first, but then they are streamed separately for ballet. DD absolutely loves it there, she deci...

Re: Applying for 2013
Hi Jessnat22 DD is in the first year at Bird........they are fantastic, but not the best at admin!! After she auditioned (Mid December) they took forever to send out the letters - so she didn't receive her offer until the beginning of Feb!! You can try calling them (I did) and they will tell you whe...

Re: MOVE IT 2013
Hi Katymac So sorry your DD was disappointed with the classes.......I think it is really difficult to judge the standard and because there are no restrictions on who can book I think they are sometimes easier than anticipated!! DD was lucky in previous years that we'd managed to book some very chall...

Re: ISTD Exams & Lower Age Limits
DD took ISTD Advanced 1 tap last year, about 4 months before her 16th birthday...so I think they must have a similar rule to IDTA!
Your DD should be fine!

Re: How many colleges should you visit the open day for?
Millenium is a brilliant college!! (But then they all seem to be fantastic!!) I think you just have to go with your gut feeling......and then consider with whether getting a place there would be practical from a funding/travelling/housing point of view!! Your DD will know which her favourites are (m...

I really want to see this too...the Sadlers Wells programme arrived yesterday....I've highlighted so many productions that I just don't know how to choose between them!! (Sadly not possible to see more than one or two!!)

Re: How many colleges should you visit the open day for?
Yes! Plan B was the Brit School (which is just down the road), but she stll had to audition there, so no guarantee of a place! And C was another local college for A levels (and she could always have stayed on at school to do her A levels!!). Whichever of these she took though, she was determined to ...

Re: How many colleges should you visit the open day for?
There are a limited number of places.......but DD felt she had as much of a chance as anyone else...and I don't think her teachers would have let her audition if she really wasn't good enough. You've just need the confidence to give it a go...If you don't try, you'll never know!! Having said that, w...

Re: How many colleges should you visit the open day for?
I think they're mostly 3 year courses?? (The Diploma courses DD looked at were all 3 years....Urdang, Bird and Laines). And then they have the option to take the 1 year degree conversion after they've finished! Xx

Re: How many colleges should you visit the open day for?
Cost is a major factor! We are South London based, and we didn't visit any of the Northern colleges/schools simply because of the cost and time, so I can imagine what the financial implications must have been for you WelshMum!! And that's just the Open days and auditions!! In the end, we actually ha...

Re: How many colleges should you visit the open day for?
I complete agree with 2dancersmum.....we only visited 6...either as open days or end of year/degree shows or audition insight/workshop days, and we started at the end of Year 9, so I would definitely recommend starting early. It's tough having to keep standards up across the board (DD took 8 dance e...

Re: What PA/dance schools can or do take children from 16?
We've been through this over the past couple of years Katymac.....DD is starting a 3 year Dance/Musical Theatre Diploma in September (at 16). We too debated whether she should study for A levels, but also thought that she should go now if she were fortunate enough to be offered a place. But..... our...
