Re: Newbie with no idea where to start!

Steer clear of Fame Street. The information on it is almost certainly just copied from other sites and probably appears without the casters knowing about it. Very definitely a waste of money and not taken seriously by any mainstream casters. I've also heard of people finding it very difficult to can...

Re: Will being out of licensing age bring more jobs?

I honestly don't think there's a clear answer. It all depends what's being cast and whether you're a) visible/known to casters and b) the most suitable for the job.

Quite a lot of "older teen" jobs go to more experienced adult actors who look young :(

Re: Finding an agent at 18

Unfortunately there is no easy answer. You are in competition with so many people, many of them are graduates of drama schools or have quite a bit of professional work on their CVs. Good agents only take on people who they believe have a reasonable prospect of getting paid work - so that's what you ...

Re: Savoy Theatre- Stephen Mear & Nigel Lilley: Stagebox Open Audition Call

Good to see there are scholarships. I've perhaps jumped too quickly to criticism - I just thought it looked too much like advertising an audition to be "in" something , rather than auditioning for a training opportunity. I always like to see the cost details featured prominently for such t...

Re: Savoy Theatre- Stephen Mear & Nigel Lilley: Stagebox Open Audition Call

I don't like the way it's marketed. They're not really looking for "25 of the most talented. .." in their "open audition" , they're looking for 25 talented children whose families want to pay for this opportunity /training. No doubt it will be a wonderful experience, but I wish t...

Re: Showreel shelf life?

The ideal showreel is one that shows the caster what you are like now, so I would stay away from older material if you have enough new stuff. If there has been high profile, broadcast work that isn't too long ago, it may be worth including - as that shows experience/employability. If you are just lo...

Re: Narrow road agency

There certainly shouldn't be any fees... It's a well established agency with a good reputation. If you're an adult actor, although the first approach is sending CV and photo, they're likely to want to see you in something or at least see a showreel before taking you on I should think. They're approa...

Re: Communication with agent

It can be tricky, I know. I don't think it's ever helpful to compare one's own career or number of auditions with others though. It's in an agent's best interest to submit their clients for everything they're suitable for but they won't always have much say in whether someone gets called in. Every c...

Re: Communication with agent

I'd suggest being much more direct in your communication and ask for clear answers to any questions, ie "can you confirm that you have put DS forward for this?" It is indeed possible that your son was submitted and not called, but there's really no reason for you not to know the facts. May...

Re: RADA Foundation- or Rose Bruford for drama?

Definitely not the foundation course. :) My ds went to RADA ( 3 year course) - it's a wonderful school - but foundation courses (wherever they are ) are an expensive way to get extra experience. The other schools clearly think she's ready now. In hindsight, DS says he felt he would have benefited fr...

Re: Auditioning for 2016

You certainly used to be able to get a means tested "hardship grant" ( it wasn't a loan) with a DADA . I know a lot of things have changed now. Is there no indication on the website about DADAs? I've just had a quick look at the gov.uk site and it looks as though maintenance payments are s...

Re: Checking credentials on KCCP jobs

I don't think there's a foolproof way of doing it - though you can contact CCP and see whether they have any reassurances to give. If you have any names, you can do some Internet research. If it's a student film , you could contact the college. I think CCP do at least read the postings before they g...

Re: Uni graduates v. drama school graduates

Many drama schools are affiliated to Universities and now offer BAs. I don't think it's the qualification that's the issue (because it will often be a very similar qualification - ie a BA - via Uni or drama school) it's the course content, the contact hours and whether the course provider genuinely ...
