Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

I’m a single parent, so there’s definitely no summer holiday this year, in order that she can do Easter course at Master’s, Summer school at Performer’s and another Summer week at West End Stage 😳

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

Dd is only 13, so we’re really thinking ahead (not good at quick decisions😉). She is hyper mobile, but not in any of the joints that are useful to dancers! She has very hyper mobile toes, fingers, ankles etc. In order to keep upright, she has to hold her muscles in her legs very tight and so her ham...

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

Really interesting to read your experiences, MygirlsloveMT. Although my daughter is fixed on the idea of Perfogmers, I have s feeling it’s not going to be for her - her dance is fine and she absolutely loves it, but not outstanding and she’s definitely not acrobatic. Singing is her strength, so I th...

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

Shall be interested how your daughter finds the pre-voc at Performers. It’s only 25mins drive/bus from us and my daughter (only 13, but thinking ahead) is really keen to go there. She is doing summer school there in July - she’s very excited!

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

Does anyone have any knowledge about Trinity Laban foundation course please or advice? . My daughter had her heart on Trinity Laban BA musical theatre and has been offered foundation . She has now also just received an offer from Chichester triple threat BA so is not sure what to do? She has not ha...

Re: Btec extended diplomas

Thanks for all the replies - I’ve found them really interesting. What I’ve taken from this is that it’s only worth doing the Btec if it’s a really good course - if we can’t find one locally, I think we’ll stick to the A level route. I read on here that many Btec students from South Essex college hav...

Re: Btec extended diplomas

This is a fair point, if they are not completely fixed on a performing arts degree and are likely to change their mind about the direction they want to take between 16-18. Lots to think about - weighing up the advantage of leaving options more open with A Levels against increasing the chance of gett...

Re: Btec extended diplomas

I agree, Ditzi. To me, the Btec/A levels are just the vehicle to open the doors to a degree/diploma course. I would have thought that, once you have your degree, the exams you took to get there are largely irrelevant (although I do take the point made above that the A level route may be better prepa...

Re: Btec extended diplomas

This is great advice. My daughter is academically appropriate for Alevels, and has an interest in studying Psychology alongside English Lit and either Drama A level (or, possibly one A level equivalent Btec in performing arts). She is very happy at her school with good friends and I am tempted to le...

Re: Btec extended diplomas

The Hammond looks fantastic, but I don’t think my daughter will be ready to live away from home at 16. She’s one of the youngest in her year group and a real home bird! Could be a great option for degree though.

Re: Btec extended diplomas

Thanks for both these replies - great points in favour of both options! We have time to think about it, so will try to make early visits to open days so we are aware of what the different options entail. I’m assuming the BTEC will have equal standing to A levels and do will not prevent her from cont...

Btec extended diplomas

My daughter is in year 9. Reading posts on this forum have made me think about options other than staying in at her present school for sixth form after GCSEs. One option is to stay where she is, continue at her current dance school, and take Alevels (one of which could be replaced with a one A level...

Re: Looking ahead and being realistic!

Thanks for all the amazing advice! Will certainly visit as many colleges as poss at MOVE IT. I just worry that her dancing won’t be strong enough - she doesn’t have a typical dancer’s physique and isn’t naturally flexible. She’s super keen and I don’t want to burst her bubble, but do want to be real...

Re: Looking ahead and being realistic!

Thanks for the reply. Think I will see how the Performers summer school goes and plan from there. Ideally want a college that’s strong in singing, as that’s her strength, but she aspires to do a triple threat course. We saw Six tonight and she was desperate to get on that stage and join in!
