Re: Film audition help!
Personally I would pull out. Reputable agencies have people constantly approaching them and if they were doing an open call to see new talent, then they would advertise it as such. This strikes me as underhand behaviour and would make me worry about the people behind it and wouldn't get a profession...

Re: How to tell your agent you’re leaving?
I ended up not having an agent for a year. DD was getting seen for the MT roles as WE is open calls a lot of the time. I wanted to spend some time researching before making another agent error, plus DD was consistently making final rounds so I rather figured that if she got cast then it was pointles...

Re: How to tell your agent you’re leaving?
Some will enforce notice. I sent DD's last agent a formal email just stating we were terminating her contract with immediate effect. They replied setting out all details of 3 months notice and any work she got in that time would require commission to them no matter how it was secured etc. Given they...

Re: Allsorts or Top Talent?
DD had offers from 3 of the agencies in the link. All very selective. The only cost was Spotlight and one had a charge for headshots. They other two were happy to accept headshots from my own choice of photographer. To be honest I see no point in having a section on the agent's website - casting dir...

Re: Other forums
Most auditions are via agents and are closed. Having spent over a year last year with DD not having an agent the only things you can really access are MT. Even with those, as soon as you get towards final rounds there are strict instructions not to discuss on social media, and if you are cast then t...

Depends what you are aiming for... modelling, theatre, commercials or film/TV.

Re: Musical theatre summer school
We've done Arts Ed and SYTS and both are good - SYTS has longer hours so works better if you work and they don't require parents to be around at all.
DD trains with Spirit all year and they are amazing. If the hours worked for me, they would be my top choice.

Re: Italia Conti
Although there might be lots of happy parents who could access it who do not live in London.... :) For the future that is true - but doesn't help those with children currently at or about to go to the school who have based their choice round the logistics needed to get there. Would imagine a lot wo...

Yikes - that doesn't sound good. Imagine there will be a lot of very unhappy parents if they move the school to Egham.

Re: Living in London 18+ and acting opportunities
I would really advise against moving to London on the off-chance. It's such an expensive city and could be a very lonely and miserable time that could do more harm than good. I have a number of young people working in my office - some are doing part-time paid internships while doing Masters degrees,...

Just wanted to comment on academic v non academic... I have a degree from Art College and nowadays I work in politics. Over 80% of my collegues and wider group of people I work with have degrees from Oxbridge. Nobody has asked me what I studied or where for a very long time and when they find out th...

Re: Arts Ed Saturday skills academy
We've done a couple of the holiday courses when DD was 7 - the Musical in a Day one. DD found them fun and really enjoyed herself. The timings aren't great if you work especially as they want you there 30 mins before finish time to watch what they have been doing that day. I would say that the stand...

Re: New and after noobie tips
When I was recently looking for a new agent, the following applied for me: - highly selective. If they didn't want to audition, meet, or see tapes of my DD then I wasn't interested. - not too much internal competition. I didn't want an agency where they would have to pick which blonde, long haired 9...
