Re: LAMDA Grading impotance
Exams are only important if the child enjoys doing them. DD is 10, has done WE and screen and been offered a full music scholarship to secondary school. She's been training since she was 5 in dance, singing, acting and MT and we have only ever done 1 ballet exam. Never been asked for exam certificat...

Re: Using house as filming location
Must admit I would think very carefully about it. Even though the crew were very respectful and careful, large numbers of people plus equipment plus rain and mud is not a happy mix!

Re: Using house as filming location
My former boss lent his house in central London for a very big Disney feature film - they used part of it to shoot and the basement as a green room. He got £1k per day iirc. I don't know if there are standard rates - I would say it depends on the amount they need it and what they are planning to do....

Re: Spirit or Stagebox ?
Regarding costs for Spirit, DD does 5 hours a week - 3 for the Performance Company Petite Elite team in musical theatre on a Sunday plus an hour each of tap and ballet during the week and it works out at £10 an hour which is on the lower side of training fees in the area. Uniform wise, she has a cou...

Re: Spirit or Stagebox ?
A lot of the girls in DD’s Spirit group are working professionally as well - of the 12 in her current group, 5 of them are cast in west end roles at the moment. My DD has recently finished a WE run and is currently filming. So, quite often you can work towards a piece, have a main solo and then find...

Re: Spirit or Stagebox ?
Wondering about the auditioning for solo lines etc. How do people feel about paying the same (considerable) cost for training if their child never gets one of the lines or isn’t even considered. I have noticed this particularly with Stagebox - often only a few children are featured and some childre...

Re: Spirit or Stagebox ?
Many thanks! Pandora, was that for stagebox or spirit? That was for Spirit. Just to add, they don’t run like Stagecoach or other non-audition entry PA schools where everyone gets a turn regardless of ability. Every term they do a new piece for a video and they all have to audition for the solos and...

Re: Spirit or Stagebox ?
My DD has been with Spirit since she was 8, she’s now 10, and loves it. They have two groups for the petites - the elites who train on Sundays and development on Saturdays. The difference seems to be based on dance experience and ability. My DD has been dancing since she was 4, and does ballet, tap,...

Re: Daisy & Dukes
In the end we had offers from 3 agencies including D&D and went with a different one. Nothing wrong with D&D or the other one that we turned down, but there were some specific personal reasons why we went with the very small one that we eventually signed with. Delighted with the choice we ma...

Re: Recommended headshot photographer?
AP Wilding is fabulous. https://www.apwildingphotography.com Alexa did DD's headshots and not only was it a really fun session but the end results were better than I could have ever hoped for. I don't know anyone who hasn't come away super happy. She does tend to book up - we had to wait two months ...

Re: Those nervous feelings
The nerves do get easier over time, and I'm a lot more blase about auditions than I once was, although I still have sleepless nights before some if I know DD is particularly invested. Stuff for film and TV I'm very laid back about now because the numbers they see and what they are looking for is suc...

Re: School Absence
I'm not 100% on the legislation, but 'educated off site' isn't just for tutored on set etc. I know DD's school use that code for auditions etc as the HT considers it a valid educational experience. We do have a loose agreement with school that she can do theatre/film/TV in term-time (has to be at a ...

Re: School Absence
I've always gone down the path of not asking for permission but just assuming that it will be given. Legally my child will be counted as 'educated off site' so it doesnt affect the school's figures. It's much harder to say no to: 'DD will be absent from school on x dates, here are the forms required...
