Re: Value of degree in the real world?

When my DD decided she wanted to pursue vocational training our view was much the same as yours. We said we would support her, but it had to be a degree course. Our thinking was that if all else fails she could go into teaching - which requires a degree. Also 60% of jobs don't specify what subject y...

Re: 6th form or extended diploma

[quote="Robin64"]T She is a very good dancer at a high level for her age and I would say her voice is very good but she hasn't had enough acting experience and I think that is what must show - no call back this year or last for NYMT and reserve for YMT last year which was her first try (don't know a...

Re: 6th form or extended diploma

Alongside her BTEC course my DD continued dance classes and singing classes. She also carried on with her youth theatre group, and did NYT and YMTUK. She got plenty of performance practice through her course as well as all these activities. She took any opportunity to perform eg singing in charity s...

Re: 6th form or extended diploma

My Dd did BTEC but that is because she was so focussed on performing. No interest in anything else, she was determined that is what she wanted to do, so the BTEC made sense. Yes she was a better dancer than most, and better singer than some, but the course broadened her experiences and really helped...

Re: Agents and Drama School

I know RADA, Central , Guildhall and BOV (generally regarded as top tier) don't allow it.

This is true of many places especially the first 2 years.

Re: Advice on Auditions, Rejections etc

HI Welsh Mum. She still has to audition for most of the ones you mention, so we'll see how she goes. I think she should be encouraged by her re call, but agree, it may be a maturity thing, she needs more life experience. As i say, we'll see how the others go, but i think she would be open to applyi...

Re: Advice on Auditions, Rejections etc

Recalls show she as something to offer and I would say it is worth re applying next year. My DD applied just before she was 18. She had a clutch of recalls (including Central, RADA, GSA, Mountview, Arts Ed) but no offers. She was down, but we felt the recalls meant that the colleges saw something in...

Re: MUSIC DEGREE COLLEGE

I know pg's DD went to Welsh Coll. You need to be looking at the Conservatoire route applying via CUKAS not UCAS. Most places want a second instrument and need a high knowledge of music theory (there is usually a theory test as well as audition). I have heard mixed things about Welsh College, varyin...

Yes Caroline A C is right. You sellotape the pages together so it can all be open at once on the piano.

My DD loved her time at Central

Re: Oliver Film

I like the idea of doing like Les Mis. This gives the singing a rawness and emotional power. There are some re makes wouldn't want to see (I was so glad the proposed re-make of Dirty Dancing never got off the ground) but I feel that the original, though great, missed the gritty realism of Dickens' o...

Oliver Film

Interesting interview with Matthew Bourne in today's paper and he mentions that Cameron Mackintosh is planning a new film version of Oliver after the success of Les Mis. Would be an amazing opportunity. I loved the original but would be happy to see it up dated. With the right cast it could be fanta...

Re: After all that... you get offered Foundation!!

It also depends on what type of next step your DD wants. Mine very definitely did NOT want a uni course. She wanted vocational training and though there are some great uni courses out there and graduates from them can be incredibly successful it is not the same as a voc course. It would not be a goo...

Re: After all that... you get offered Foundation!!

How old is your DD? If she is 18 then I would not panic at all. My DD tried at 18 and got lots of recalls, one reserve list and one offer of foundation. Due to the cost this was not an option for us, so she took a year out, worked (earned some much needed money) and tried again the following year. S...

I was going to say History Boys. There is also a play version of Lord of the Flies which is good.
