Pauline Quirk Full Time Academy

Does anyone have any experience of the Pauline Quirk Full Time Academy in Kings Cross? Having looked at the prospectus and website, it looks ideal for my dd, but I never see it mentioned on forums etc.

Re: Courses at 16

Thanks islandofsodor, that’s what I thought. It’s such a shame, as it’s part of a new (very small) theatre that’s been opened in our town - about half a mile from home! They teased it for ages and I was really hopeful that it would be the level 3 extended diploma they would offer. I’m guessing they’...

Re: Courses at 16

As a classical musician myself, I understand ATCL as an exam taken post grade 8. The new course being offered us a 2 year course for sixth form age young people. They aim to do the ATCL alongside istd dance exams, LAMDA exams and singing exams. They are also going to award their own college diploma....

Courses at 16

My daughter is in year 10, so we are looking at possible musical theatre courses post GCSEs, as she’s not keen to stay on for sixth form at her current school. We had thought that an extended level 3 diploma seemed the best thing to look at, which is available at several local colleges and also one ...

Agency audition

My daughter has an audition for PD Management later this month. She has to prepare a monolgue and song. This is the first audition like this she has done. Any advice about what she should wear? If there was dancing, I’d know, but unsure for acting/singing. She’s 13. She thinks leggings, t shirt trai...

Re: 6th form courses

I’m interested in this thread, as my daughter is thinking of a level 3 extended diploma as an alternative to A levels. One college we visited has recently swapped from Btec to UAL - they said they preferred the syllabus when we asked why, but wouldn’t go into details.

Re: Help - disastrous Easter school experience!

Fantastic advice dancemom. I definitely think it’s an age thing. Last year she did a tap master class with Adam Garcia which was for higher grades than she was on (she got in at the last minute as there was a space which became available) and didn’t panic at all when it was challenging. Mind you, ta...

Re: Help - disastrous Easter school experience!

Thanks everyone - on ‘the other side’ of the course she’s glad she did it and can appreciate that it was only a couple of the workshops that she found challenging. Having seen the short performance they gave at the end of the second afternoon, I can see why she felt in awe of many of the dancers - l...

Re: Help - disastrous Easter school experience!

Thanks for all the lovely replies. Dd had a good afternoon, although she admitted that she wimped out of auditioning for a singing solo during the song and dance workshop, which is something she’d never usually do. Hopefully normal service will resume soon - although I’m guessing the teenage angst c...

Re: Help - disastrous Easter school experience!

Thank you so much, Littleone, that was just the good sense advice I needed! She’s just texted to say she enjoyed the second workshop this morning, which was musical theatre jazz. The first session was commercial, which she doesn’t have much experience of. This afternoon is song and dance, which shou...

Help - disastrous Easter school experience!

Looking for the voice of reason from some of you lovely people! Dd is 13 and musical theatre mad. She’s a strong singer and enjoys acting, although she’s only recently started taking it more seriously and having LAMDA lessons. She’s been dancing since she was 2 and is currently working on ISTD balle...

Thanks for all the advice - she is never going to be a gymnast, although she can always increase her flexibility!
