Re: confusion between different boards
I am just surprised they don't have a grade 6, I thought they used to so it would seem odd to get rid of it

Re: LAMDA exams
I did a mix when I was younger, a mi of boards (New Era and LAMDA depending on which teacher I had at the time) and a mix of types of exam, I did pretty much every grade of Speech and Drama (so verse and prose), I did a public speaking one, a few reading ones (so some was prepared readings and some ...

Re: confusion between different boards
hope his exam goes well in October. I think the boards all have strengths and weaknesses and whether any one is better is down to an individual's strengths and weaknesses isn't it. If someone in particular struggles with free work then some boards might suit them better. I think Theatrecraft sounds ...

Re: confusion between different boards
oh I wouldn't expect the UCAS points to apply to anything other than perfoming arts type courses but from working in degree course entry I know that additional qualifications in anything which is easily measurable (like by UCAS points) can really count in the favour of getting any sort of an offer i...

Re: confusion between different boards
yes ISTD, RAD, BBO etc carry UCAS points for Grade 6 and also their vocational ones too, IDTA get UCAS points for their vocational ones, I kind of assumed that this is why they have done away with their grade 6 as it didn't used to qualify from what I can work out. I think in terms of RAD and ISTD, ...

I would think it would cover what he needs it to and if he is doing tap and ballet too then he should get exposed to the main things

Re: confusion between different boards
How old is he? I don't know much about theatrecraft but from looking on the internet I get the impression that with idta modern is just jazz so they have theatrecraft as well which covers a larger range of styles. ISTD modern is modern theatre dance and then they have jazz as a sort of subsection fo...

Re: confusion between different boards
all sounds a bit mad that something people can take when still at school is classed as too high to qualify for UCAS points. You would think IDTA would have an advanced foundation level then wouldn't you to match the others but then if the levels don't map across then they must have their reasons. I ...

Re: confusion between different boards
yes that is true Lynda, hard to explain to a 7 year old though. Her school does have a bit of a "distinction" expectation which in some ways I don't like too much as I think it puts more pressure on them plus it can mean they take almost a little bit TOO long to get grades done from what s...

Re: confusion between different boards
We are lucky in that we have access to pretty much all the different dance boards within a couple of miles of our house (including RAD, ISTD, IDTA, ARBTA, BTDA and another I can't remember) and we do like the school my girls are at but they do seem to move very slowly compared to friends who are doi...

Re: Is dancing once a week good enough?
My daughters do 4hrs a week each but this is in 4 different styles of dance so only 1hr of each. They are 7 and 8. I doubt either will pursue dance in terms of going to dance or performing arts college but I can see them dancing until they are mid teens perhaps and they do take it seriously.

Re: confusion between different boards
yes that is true about the range of levels a grade can be performed at and the teacher's expectations of their pupils. Interesting lyndahill. I have only had experience with the lower grades but certainly the ISTD and RAD exams are around the 30 minute mark and for the same number of students the ID...

Re: confusion between different boards
thank you, so my gut instinct to go along with the ISTD teacher is looking right.
