Re: Confused

Welcome to the forum, Teepee . I don't have any information on your query, but just wanted to suggest that you may get more responses if you repost in the Training section. The other sections of the board are quite quiet these days, but there is still a reasonable amount of traffic in Training from ...

Re: Auditioning again?

I would definitely say try again if your child has been getting to finals. DS has been in two long-running WE shows and both times he was cast on his second attempt at audition; it is very common for children to audition more than once for a particular show before being cast. The etiquette of applyi...

Re: height restrictions at castings

Good rule of thumb is that if you/your agent has informed the CD of the child's correct height at the time of submission, and the CD invites the child to audition knowing the child is at the height limit, it's fine to attend. If the child's height has changed since submission, it's worth contacting ...

Re: Harry Potter and the cursed child auditions

When DS auditioned for this last year the CD was Julia Horan. Audition involved a short extract of script (given in advance to prepare) and some drama games.

Re: Peter Pan live remake

DS auditioned for this before Christmas, before the open casting call went out. The CD said at the time that they were right at the beginning of the process and it might take a while. We weren't asked to sign an NDA to audition, so presumably there's no restriction on people posting if they've heard...

Re: LAMDA Grading impotance

In my experience exam grades aren't essential to success at auditions. Casting directors will go by a child's performance in the audition room and don't really care about exam grades achieved or even whether a child has done graded exams at all. Even for a show like Matilda, which specifies in the c...

Re: Letter to the School for Auditions and Jobs

Is it for a specific job, or more of a general "We may ask for time off at some point" letter? For a specific job, I tend to give details of the the time commitment involved, including time spent away from school, and run through how we plan to minimise the impact on school work, to show I've though...

Re: Curtis Brown & Alike

Hero has a very good reputation, and they are very selective. If you haven't done so, it might be worth asking to see a list of what the agency has submitted your DD for in recent months. That might give an idea whether she's being put forward by the agency for the sort of work she'd like to do but ...

I understand that recalls from self-tapes were last week, and they are doing second recalls this week. I'm not sure if any offers have been made yet though.

Re: How should I help DS go forwards?

With respect to West End shows, he's not too tall for School of Rock, the dance in that isn't too difficult and they do cast 9-year-olds in ensemble, so that might be one to try (unless that is one of the WE shows he's already done, of course!). I wondered reading your post whether perhaps your DS d...

Re: Curtis Brown & Alike

Curtis Brown is very, very selective. In my experience the children they take on already have at least one high-profile TV/film credit under their belt. In other words, Curtis Brown typically decides to represent children because they are already successful TV/film actors - they don't become success...

Re: Mary Poppins

I asked Dds agent and he said they are however the kids would live in a house for 6-8weeks for rehearsal time and then the show. It’s not for us as dd wouldn’t cope and not would I not seeing her. Best of luck all!! Very good to hear they are open to casting from outside London/SE! Living away from...

Re: Mary Poppins

Auditions aren't until the end of next month and Jo Hawes will be busy in early March casting children for Joseph and girls for the Les Mis tour, so I wouldn't necessarily expect to hear about audition slots just yet. Jo usually gives about a week's notice for auditions (though once, memorably, we h...

Re: Self Tape Success Stories

Never a wasted opportunity even if not cast - it was a great experience for DS to be one of a small number recalled and to meet the director.

We're now looking forward to seeing sugarpplumfairy's DD play a great role :D

Re: Mary Poppins

It doesn't specify location in the breakdown on Jo Hawes' website, but based on previous experience with similar shows I think it is most likely that children will need to live within commuting distance to London. I would suggest emailing or tweeting Jo to ask - she is usually pretty quick to respond.
