Re: Auditioning for 2020 entry

It's not just those auditioning this year that are affected either. Third year students have agent showcases and third year shows that are also suffering, plus those already in the industry are having shows pulled and auditions cancelled. I know things will settle eventually but these are grim times...

Re: Auditioning for 2020 entry

[As far as I know ALL are only available via Italia Conti but I think you have to be 19? You would only be eligible for £6,000 from SFE as Mountview is classed as a private drama school,so you would need to find the difference. (£9,000) but you would get maintenance loan. I would love to know anyone...

Re: Fully funded BA MT Sept 2020 - Advice sought

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but the terms do seem to be shorter now. My niece went to Urdang (finished a year ago) and my nephew is in his third year at the moment. When she went, they started about 2nd Sept and went through until 22nd December, then started again 2nd Jan. this ...

Re: lcm

Mountview is full on. DS had contact hours pretty much from 9 until at least 5pm Monday to Friday for his musical theatre degree. Also small classes - only 38 per year accepted and then split into smaller groups for classes, or 1:1 singing etc. They also get showcased extremely well - three musicals...

Re: Fully funded BA MT Sept 2020 - Advice sought

When DS was at Chester House we booked his room in May and there were plenty left. You can always check availability before you accept a place somewhere. Once you put a deposit down the place is yours. The Urdang offers were out way before all the rooms went (but I am going back four years now). Hop...

Re: Fully funded BA MT Sept 2020 - Advice sought

Also re Chester House, I wouldn't discount the non ensuite rooms if that makes a difference. If he is in a house share somewhere it won't be ensuite. My son didn't have ensuite at Chester house and it worked out well. There was one toilet and shower per five people (only the same as at home!) and it...

Re: Fully funded BA MT Sept 2020 - Advice sought

Have you looked at living costs at Chester House. It is a student hall and is commutable to Urdang, but is not in the centre which makes it cheaper. The bus would then be £1.50 each journey. A few students for Urdang live there. The bus ride is about 40mins I think. My nephew did this for his first ...

Re: A levels alongside Musical Theatre Btech

My DS also went the A level route and did physics, maths and drama, while spending every evening and all weekends at local dance classes, singing lessons and the local youth theatre. He would have been happy to go away at sixteen but is very young in his year and wasn't as physically developed at th...

Re: Dd struggling - advice

When DS started at Mountview these were on the reading list. We got them second hand from amazon. Not sure how much he used them as they did lots of exercises to get them out of their comfort zones but maybe they will be useful for your DD. An Actor's Handbook: An Alphabetical Arrangement of Concise...

Re: SFE maintenance loan

My DS always got his maintenance loan on the first official date of each Mountview term. He has just finished at Mountview. His brother is at university now, going into second year, and again his student finance comes of the first day of each term. This is through student finance Wales so it may be ...

Re: Level 6 diploma or BA Hons in Musical Theatre?

DS just finished degree course at Mountview. Definitely no dissertation to write. A couple of friends of his started the degree with a student loan but then switched to diploma part way through the first term when Dada funding became available (they had been on reserve for a DaDa). Practically it ma...

Re: Level 6 diploma or BA Hons in Musical Theatre?

DS has just finished at Mountview. The degree and diploma courses are exactly the same - not even any extra written work. It is just the funding that is different. The diploma students can pay to register to get the degree too. There is practically no written work on the course - just one actors wri...

Re: After graduation....

They definitely need a back-up for the lean times. DS has trained as a gymnastic coach and coaches on Saturdays and Sundays. The pay is good but he has gone through his Mountview training five days a week and then coached gym each weekend during term time. Now he has finished he has just taken a sec...

Re: After graduation....

Mountview have all their third year and last year's students listed on their website. You can click on them and it takes you to their spotlight page which lists their agent. Mountview don't have an in house agency but seem to do pretty well showcasing their students. All the third years do three sho...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018

When DS was applying three years ago, they phoned people with funding and the reserve offers went out by post. At least it actually said what number they were on the reserve list. He was number 6. He chose Mountview instead but I know that people lower down the list did get funding in the end. Finge...
