Re: PPA student loan funding for 2018 entry
I have looked at PPA website and I must say I think that optional top up thing is really odd. For an extra £1200 ish you get the things you should be getting anyway. Very divisive too. Why not just say the course costs £10, 500. "Oh you can't be in this show because you didn't pay the top up&q...

Re: PPA student loan funding for 2018 entry
That's the case for some colleges. My point with PPA is that I'm fairly sure the fees this year are £10,500 for the BA and the max loan is £9,000 or £9,250 so unless they reduce the fees for next year it won't be fully funded. They may do that though. Oh, I understand what you meant now, I hadn't e...

Re: PPA student loan funding for 2018 entry
Not sure though on your last point? When we were looking 2 years ago it was often the case that the student loan would only cover £6000 a year at private colleges offering a BA meaning there could still be a significant shortfall. This doesn't seem to be the case here even though PPA is a private c...

PPA student loan funding for 2018 entry
Thought I would make a separate post rather than get lost in the auditioning thread. PPA announced today that their degree courses will be eligible for student loan funding for September 2018 entry. From the website it looks like entire fees will be covered by the loan.

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018
I would recommend you take a look at PPA, not a mainstream uni but may be offering student loans this year. If you haven't already, consider booking to see the third year shows at different colleges to get an idea of the standard, you may come away pleasantly surprised. I am actually glad that my c...

Re: Auditioning for SEPT 2018
Just putting this out there for peoples thoughts. We all know I am sure that the likes of GSA / Hammond / Trinity / Arts Ed are the places we would want our sons and daughters to be, but with the number of places available against those that audition there will be many who are disappointed. With th...

You can install something called 'CutePDF' which is free and allows you to select it as your printer and turns any document or whatever you want to print as a PDF that you can save. Much easier than printing and scanning

Re: London College of Music or Chichester Triple Threat
I couldn't agree more with the sentiment of not compromising. If funding is an issue better to take the time and sort that and delay starting. If DC can get 40 hours a week at the minimum wage then allowing for 4 weeks holiday they can earn £14,000 in a year. Add £10,000 career development loan and...

Re: London College of Music or Chichester Triple Threat
Did your DS look at Trinity Laban? They are still accepting applications according to their website and I think qualify for student loans. Maybe look at the advanced learner loan and which colleges qualify if your DS is between 19 and 24. My DS was in a similar situation and decided to take a year o...

Re: Advanced Learner Loan
I have found this list which I believe is the approved providers:
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/s ... sv/preview
Sadly DS's college is not currently on the list but others are so may be useful for others.

Re: Advanced Learner Loan
I am not sure that a foundation year would qualify for this loan - the information states that it must be a level 3, 4, 5 or 6 qualification. I think 3 year diplomas are usually level 6. But then does an access to university course have a qualification with a level? I guess there is no reason why a ...

Advanced Learner Loan
I have only just heard about the advanced learner loan, which operates in a similar way to student finance for uni courses. Has anybody's DC taken one out to fund their training? It looks like the age limit for them was lowered last year from 24 to 19, not sure if DS's college is eligible but he wil...

Re: Uni graduates v. drama school graduates
Let him audition and then if he's successful start a dialogue with the college. I can't speak for the others, but we've always made it work. . . somehow. Nobody should be prevented a vocational training course purely for financial reasons. I think that you might be surprised at how flexible some of...

Re: Auditioning for 2017
She is aware that not many people get in on the first year they apply so the fact that she has even been recalled for two of them has hugely boosted her confidence. If she doesn't get in anywhere this year she will get a job and do more training and then try again next year. Hope it won't come to t...
