Re: Disappointed at Local college.

My DD was the same. At her BTEC audition she found it unchallenging. The principal was honest and said they could help with her singing and acting but she would be ahead of the rest of the year group in dance. She had offers from Laine, Performers and Urdang so the BTEC was her back-up plan. She was...

Re: Auditioning for 2017

How about, instead of getting rid of degrees for PA, we got rid of the Trinity Diplomas and made all of them degrees, eligible for £9000 tuition fee loans? Then the DaDA funding could be awarded as bursaries to outstanding applicants to use to cover the top-up fees (some colleges charge well over £1...

Re: Urdang Recalls - Diploma / Degree

Hi Ciara, I think there will still be Urdang degree places. Even if only reserve places are offered from now on there is always movement as other offers are received and then again after A Level results. One of DD's former housemates was offered degree in June after attending a late audition a coupl...

Re: Best value Foundation courses?

Hello Everyone I am a little confused about doing a foundation course at aged 16yrs. These courses cost around £7500 per year plus living expenses on top. I guess it must work out around £15,000 for the year. Okay this will prepare your child for the next stage which could be the level 6 diploma or...

Re: Auditioning for 2017

Does anyone know the fees for performers please?? DD has audition tomorrow & no fees are listed... Also if she was to get in & be offered a dada .. Is there any funding for living or loans ... Thanks DaDAs are means tested. If a student is awarded a DaDA then there is an element for the tui...

Re: Auditioning for 2017

Has anyone ever had their deposit back from a course which their youngster decided not to take up? Basically Urdang (Foundation) are wanting a £500 deposit (gulp!) but we are still like everyone else waiting to hear about dada's. I think it depends, if you are waiting to hear about a DaDA for the D...

Re: Auditioning for 2017

From an earlier post on a different thread regarding degree course fees and loans: The official line is that 'private institutions' can only have £6,000 borrowed towards the fees. However I don't fully understand what makes Arts Ed or Mountview a private institution while Bird and Urdang are not... ...

Re: Auditioning for 2017

DD was gutted yesterday to only get a Foundation offer from Urdang. This was her first choice. She's still waiting to hear from Bird and has an audition at Laine coming up. She's currently in her second year at Urdang. I've told her to cheer up and not see it as a NO. It's another option she has to...

Re: What to do at 16?

Same with my DD. She's looking at post 16 for experience ready for diplomas when she's 18. Can anyone recommend good post 16 MT courses? (Other than - BRIT, Tring, Conti's, Emil Dale) Also, if anyone has any experience of MT courses from the list below I'd love to know! Kind Regards. If you are pre...

Re: Query on performing arts degree costs

Regarding student loans for degree courses: At some colleges you can only get a loan of £6000 but at others you can get a loan of just over £9000. Does anyone know which colleges offer which and why the difference? The official line is that 'private institutions' can only have £6,000 borrowed towar...

DD applied to Trinity Laban via CUKAS. It is linked to UCAS but is for specialist conservatoires. You can see the list of conservatoires here:

Re: Query on performing arts degree costs

Re DaDAs, under the old system each college was given a specific number of DaDA places (for example, at Laine in 2012 I think we were told they had 27). These were awarded purely on ability and weren't means-tested for the fees element, only for the maintenance part. The system changed a couple of y...

Re: Query on performing arts degree costs

This page has really clear info about the DaDAs and income bands: http://www.dadainfo.org.uk/income-bands/ DD was offered a DaDA but it just wasn't possible for us to find the extra money for London rent. Even though the amounts look generous for those in the lowest income bands, with income so low ...

Re: #time4change

I have heard stories about students suffering in DD's cohort at hers and other PA colleges. (I have also heard some from my other daughters who are not in performing arts). Many arrive in Further/Higher Education with existing mental health issues and have clearly not received appropriate support at...

Re: Auditioning for 2016

Fingers crossed for any last minute offers after tomorrows A-Level results for anyone waiting. Due to being messed around ](*,) DD may have a room available in a quiet cul-de-sac in Archway N19. Easy walk to Archway and Tufnell Park tube stations. Rent is £130 per week for large sunny double room (f...
