Re: Btec extended diplomas

Thanks Marissa, that’s very helpful. You’re right, it is ultimately their choice, and I strongly believe they should be the ones deciding what works best for them. Our duty as parents is to guide and support them, and as long as they have that, everything else will work out. X

Re: Btec extended diplomas

Thanks Marissa and dancemum. So let’s say they do a BA in MT, and at a later date they want to change direction (as to what, that’s a different matter). Does it matter if they did Btec or A levels beforehand or the Degree is the qualification that counts at that stage, as it’s the latest qualificati...

Re: Btec extended diplomas

Can someone clarify please how can doing A levels open up more doors, should a dc decide to change careers later on. What confuses me is if the Btec Extend diploma is equivalent to 3 A levels, what advantage is there on doing 3 A levels, apart from the academic side? From what I understand, the “equ...

Re: Fired from job. Crushed

Hi, it sounds like you’re going through a very difficult time. Not sure if this is suitable, as you said you’re a graduate, but have a look and apply, if you meet the criteria, it could help you with regards to making contacts in the industry, etc. https://www.instagram.com/p/BuEQHbZBBI6/?utm_source...

Re: Which GCSE?!

Hi Ditzi, In my experience and only speaking for DS's school , the level of dance and drama was nowhere near or anything like his experience of training outside school. I wouldn't even call it dance , I would call it choreographed movement. Remember there are pretty much what you would call non-dan...

Re: Which GCSE?!

Brilliant, thanks amo185! We managed to talk to the head of music at parents evening last night, and he said she’d be ok to take it, providing she’s prepared to work at it, as our concern was that she doesn’t play an instrument or has much musical knowledge. She played acoustic guitar up to Year 4 (...

Re: Which GCSE?!

Hi riverdancefan, Thank you for reply, your ds’s dance and drama at school sound very similar to dd’s. This is exactly what we thought, and heard from other students who are doing them, that unfortunately they are not great, and like you say, some people choose them thinking it’s an easy option, whi...

Which GCSE?!

Hi all, Dd is currently in year 9 and looking at her GCSE options. Her plan is to apply for the BTEC course at EDA at age 16, even though she is still considering A levels, but heavily leaning towards the 2 year BTEC course. She was thinking of choosing drama, dance, history and philosophyðics, b...

Re: Fully funded BA MT Sept 2020 - Advice sought

2 of the previous EDA 6th formers/BTEC (their first intake) have got into ArtsEd and Mountview but both decided to leave as they had offers for professional work, something they couldn’t have done whilst at college. One just finished in Bat Out of Hell, the other is in Club Mex, then going straight ...

Re: 'Best fit' schools/colleges post 18?

Emil Dale Accademy have introduced a degree course starting from this year, with access to student finance. It’s triple threat with syllabus written specifically for them. Definitely worth considering.

Unfortunately I don’t think I can give you any advice, but I’m so glad you posted this as we have the same dilemma (year 9 dd and I). Following with interest x

Re: Just looking for some reassurance/advice

I totally agree with what’s been said, as I share all feelings. My dd is in year 9 and got very close to being cast in WE shows several times, she got in 1 professional production and had quite a few leading roles locally over the years, and others which she thought she would get but didn’t. She is ...
