Drama school after scoliosis

Just wondered if there was anyone on this sight who had had surgery for scoliosis (or other major surgery) and still managed to do a drama course? Daughter is hoping to have the op for scoliosis next April but we wondered if she would cope with starting a drama course in the September. If she was go...

Re: Drama Foundation Course

Thanks for the info. MT is not really what she wants and this is the problem because I have heard good things about the MT foundation courses in a few places but I really don't know whether drama foundations with give her a strong chance of getting onto a full-time course next time. I don't mind if ...

Drama Foundation Course

Hello all No luck for daughter in auditions for Drama School 3 year courses but wondered if anyone had any advice/experience of foundation courses (thinking Lamda, Central and Guildford). she is 17 and I think the full-time courses are (possibly) looking for slightly older students but I don't know ...

Re: Anyone had experience of scoliosis?

So kind of you to share the story Orangebear and it sounds as though your daughter is going from strength to strength. We are thinking of daughter having a 'year out' before higher education but not sure whether that is a bit drastic-if she had the op end of July not sure whether she would be ready ...

Re: Anyone had experience of scoliosis?

I have been wondering how both the daughters of Orangebear and Mumamia are getting on after their ops. Our daughter has decided she WILL have the op next year with a view to trying for drama school as opposed to an (unrealistic) course of dance. Have been thinking of you allx

Re: Anyone had experience of scoliosis?

Just wanted to update you-daughter's curve has not moved since last visit according to x-rays- a bit baffling really as we expected it to have got worse, thereby making the decision easier in some ways to go for op. Now I am in a quandry trying to justify the op then I think we could 'move on' Stuck...

Re: Anyone had experience of scoliosis?

Mummamia-what you have been through is really tough but it sounds as though you and your daughter have made the right decision. I wanted to let you know that I have a friend whose son had a severe double curve and he had the op a year ago. His mum says it was the best decision they ever made and the...

Re: Anyone had experience of scoliosis?

My daughter is 16 and she only started her periods late last year-they think she has a tiny bit more growing-she is already 5ft 8 but we have got x-rays straight after xmas and I think that will be crunch-time. At the moment she is refusing to have the op as it is not life-threatening and she is in ...

Re: Anyone had experience of scoliosis?

Thanks Hecouldshine for the link on the other thread and thank you Mummamia for your candid response-can I ask when your daughter had her op please? I don't know the numbers but my daughter has a lumbar curve-they wouldn't do the the top I don't think because that is not too bad. The lumbar curve is...

Re: Anyone had experience of scoliosis?

I am thinking of you Orangebear-I posted about my daughter's scoliosis on the dance section then I found your thread. We are in a complete dilemma because my daughter is a keen dancer and having the op will put a stop to what she wants to do. She wants to postpone it til she is older and I am worrie...

dancing after op

Is there anyone out there who has had an op on spine for scoliosis (or knows anyone who has) and STILL managed to get on to some sort of dance course or musical theatre course post 16??

Jazz dance extra class

I feel my dd is lacking in jazz dance (she does do some jazz plus ballet and tap). Wondered if anyone know of a sort of 'associate' scheme at a reasonably high level (Adv 1 +).

Re: RAD to ISTD

Hello You may find as well as the steps being a little different, that ISTD have more 'free' work. So in an exam the examiner will ask the children to perform certain steps in an order of their choice. I feel sure they gey a few practice runs. My daughter has done both RAD and ISTD and she says the ...

Re: Dance advice

What a nice welcome-thank you for taking the trouble to reply-and you have put my mind at rest re the summer schools too. I will look into drama groups/NYMT for her to try and broaden her experience.
Thank you
