Re: Asking for small donations after all these years.

It's been a long time since I've looked at the site, but was so pleased to be able to contribute something small for this great cause. Thanks Debbie, NAPM have been absolutely marvellous over the years for my boys, one's now at drama school and the other still loving his life. You're a star.

Re: Reserve vs offers

Thanks for your replies so far, all helpful to gauge opinions so thanks for spending the time. He would be happy with RB but didn't really like the feel of GSA for him (even though his friends are going, they are MT not acting) but he wonders if he's going to miss out on the London vibe and the spec...

Reserve vs offers

Hello NAPMs I'm in need of your good advice! DS has auditioned for straight acting first time (18) and is holding offers from Rose Bruford, GSA and Fourth Monkey (1 year) and is on reserve for CDT (collaborative devised theatre, exactly what he wants to do) at Central. UCAS deadline to accept or dec...

Living in London 18+ and acting opportunities

Hello again NAPMS You've always given me such good advice, hope it's ok to throw this question out there... DS is 18, wants to do straight acting although trained in MT (extended BTEC diploma), one offer from GSA and one from Fourth Monkey, couple more potentials still in the pipeline. But I can't h...

Re: Straight Acting 2018 - how to choose and manage finances?

I’d just like to say a big thank you to you all for your guidance and replies.
He’s now had a yes from GSA and on final recall at Rose Bruford. Really valuable advice from everyone - I don’t know what we will do yet but maybe it will become clearer!

Straight Acting 2018 - how to choose and manage finances?

Hello NAPMs It's been a while since I've posted but I just wondered if anyone could offer their advice / guidance on this? DS is 18, completing Btec extended Dip in MT, but really wants to do straight acting. Lots of rejections (Royal Welsh, Mountview, RCS, Bristol, Lamda, Guildhall) and one first r...

Re: Advice on agency fees

Hello all First of all thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to reply. I do agree with what you all say, it's just hard to make the break as they've been very supportive whilst I wasn't well last year and the boys do get work. But I'm going to have to bite the bullet and discuss it with ...

Advice on agency fees

Hello all My two DS are with a Manchester agency who has just asked me to sign new Ts and Cs saying we now pay them £10 a month admin fee which also covers a compulsory workshop (minimum 1 a year, but cost apparently covers 2). When I started out learning about agencies, I thought that agencies shou...

Re: Difficult situation - what do I do?!

Hello I'm afraid I can't add any words of wisdom here, but I just wanted to say good luck to you. You are dealing with an awful lot there and apparently on your own. As a 'littlemum' I am sure that your mum would not wish you to take on all her troubles for her, despite you clearly being very close....

Best dancewear suppliers - older boy / young man sizes

Hello all My DS is set to go to study musical theatre at college in September and I've not been on the case at all until today to look at uniform requirements. DS is a small young adult - fits about age 14 (he is 16) - my inclination is to try to get him to a shop who can help us rather than buy fro...

Re: What to do at 16?

Hello all I'd just like to say thank you for some really interesting reading - it's not the first time I've tried to look into this - DS now pretty set on doing extended Btec MT rather than A levels as he believes this will give him the strongest chance of getting into Drama School (he wants to do A...

Re: Any advice on paying commission for work found yourself?

Thanks again for your continued advice. I had a good chat with the agent who was actually very helpful (and I felt a lot better afterwards) and said basically to ignore the clause, they wanted to make sure that their CVs were up to date rather than being interested in taking their commission on this...

Re: Any advice on paying commission for work found yourself?

Very interesting stuff. The more I learn the more I know I need to learn! When I've really questioned myself about my disquiet, I think I'm wondering if this agency is a best fit for my two DSs (who are of course different themselves!) and I need to read up more about other agencies and how they all...

Re: Any advice on paying commission for work found yourself?

Thanks for your help and advice everyone, as always an invaluable insight into this rather strange world! My doubts were triggered as this was a new clause, but from what you say it's standard practice.

Any advice on paying commission for work found yourself?

Hello NAPMs I'm hoping for some of your pearls of wisdom! My DSs have been with an agent for 3 and 2 years respectively - they've had bits of work but the work has mostly come from us finding it ourselves (some has attracted a modest fee, sort of £10 a performance, others free and one opportunity wh...
