Re: Injury - repeat year?

DD had a similar experience. Injured in her first half term.......she continued dancing initially as she was misdiagnosed with a muscular injury (it was actually a slipped disc). She was off dancing until the summer term and then only back to half classes. College offered her the chance to retake he...

Re: Degree or Diploma ?

Hi jennifer1972 Thank you! The majority of the drop outs have been for very specific reasons....injury, financial, family problems....but there have been a couple where the student has decided that the training is not for them or that they just can't cope with the stress of it. Some others who have ...

Re: Degree or Diploma ?

Bird was DD's first choice too (also offered Laine and Urdang), and it is a brilliant college!! The training is completely full-on, with a huge number of contact hours per week.....I don't think any of them ever have time to get bored (on the contrary......they are hugely grateful for breaks wheneve...

Re: Degree or Diploma ?

Hi CassiesMum! Congratulations to your DD, what a lovely position to be in!! My DD is just finishing her 3rd year at Bird........and the degree and diploma courses have been identical apart from the additional contextual work needed for the degree, so absolutely no difference in the amount of vocati...

Re: Comparison between Bird & Urdang

DD just going into her 3rd year at Bird…..so she has experience there (but not at Urdang, obviously!!) and I suspect it's the Bird website that isn't giving you the information you need!! I would say that Bird is definitely for dancers who sing, or singers who dance (acting is good, and DD loves it,...

Re: Goodness me; I just got DD's uniform list <gulp>

Hi Bambi, have checked with DD and she confirmed that the jazz trousers were completely irrelevant…they've never left her drawer!! She said the thick strap ballet leotard is the only one you actually have to have for assessments (she said they are stricter in first year, but as long as the leotard i...

Re: Goodness me; I just got DD's uniform list <gulp>

I wold err on the side of caution with the uniform list…….DD (at Bird) hasn't worn half of hers!! They have to wear uniform for assessments, but it seems to be much more flexible for everything else! DD seems to live in cut off leggings/tights, big knickers (can't think of what else to call them….th...

Re: New Thread for actual destinations!!

DD is also coming to the end of her second year at Bird and although she didn't do Pre-Voc she says she thinks it's really good….the Pre-Voc students seem to have an excellent success rate auditioning for diploma places at the end of it!

Re: Lots of luck to all auditionees! & a place to put result

Hi there DD is in her 2nd year at Bird……and whilst she says that the primary focus is definitely dance (Bird has always been a dance college), they do have Singing every day and about 4 hours of Acting and 4 hours of Musical Theatre every week. DD is a very strong dancer but at her audition (a coupl...
