Rambert accommodation available

A room has become available in my daughter's four bed flat in Twickenham for next year. It is an easy walk to Rambert school with shops, the river and Twickenham station on the doorstep. Sadly, they will need to move out at the end of term if they can't find a new tenant in the next few days so plea...

Re: How important is it to go to an 'accredited' school?

Oh yes, plenty of research underway - I was just interested in other peoples gut feel or experience as to which schools garner the most attention! Thanks for getting the ball rolling!

Re: How important is it to go to an 'accredited' school?

For dancers, particularly contemporary and classical, where you did your training is more important than ever these days. The majority of dance companies now hold closed auditions, and you need to apply to attend. One of the things they look at when deciding whether or not to call you for an auditi...

Re: HE Dance ... Uni or Conservatoire ... which course ?

I would also suggest places such as Laban and Urdang but would definitely look at London Studio Centre as I think that could be a good fit. Rambert may not be ideal for her as they only do ballet and contemporary dance.

Re: Value of degree in the real world?

I suppose this is what I was trying to find out, Woody. Will it be invaluable inasmuch as will it be actually recognised as a degree in the same way as a degree in Maths, or history or a science for example. The only benefit that seems to have been highlighted in this conversation is that it can hel...

Re: Value of degree in the real world?

Why is that, Katymac? For the degree course my dd is doing there were no academic requirements and no one even checked that she had passed Maths and English GSCE, let alone any of the others. She doesn't have A levels. The small amount of academic work that she does as part of the course is not remo...

Re: Value of degree in the real world?

JTB, you make a significant point - and my response isn't personal!! I don't understand how a performing arts degree can hold the same weight as an academic one and how someone can claim to be educated to degree level when they don't meet the general requirement for a more traditional degree, such a...

Re: Value of degree in the real world?

Some interesting points! I realise that to get a job in performing arts then a degree per se is worth nothing - it is all down to talent and a host of other unquantifiable things. I do currently have a child on a degree course in this sector and was just wondering if the degree will be worth anythin...

Value of degree in the real world?

I think that this quote on another thread is worthy of a discussion in its own right!! " We have told DD that we will support her 100% BUT we are insisting she goes for a degree course - even her GCSE drama teacher wrote her a note saying 'get a degree'. It seems to us that, in today's job mark...

Re: Audition Tips?!

It is hard to answer this without knowing which schools you are considering as requirements vary from one to the other. My dd only auditioned at dance schools and, if I recall rightly, most said what should be worn when the audition was confirmed. I don't remember having to say which other schools s...

Thanks, katymac. There is quite a bit about auditions etc there but only the odd very brief mention of life at the school itself so.....if anyone has some info that would be great!!

Rambert School

Does anyone have any experience of Rambert? My dd has been offered a place and we are keen to find out as much as possible about what a normal day would be like and about the overall experience of studying there!

Re: Parents not going to Auditions

She would know if she had been cut, though? Did they all leave at the same time or was she aware that some people were staying when she left? Sure she did fine!!

Aah, maybe not! I know they do for 18+ courses so just assumed that they did for 16+!!

Good luck
