Re: DD unsure whether to pursue FT training at sixth form

To be honest, I think doubts are quite normal and especially given your DD's age and especially given the past year of covid when normal life has been very different. I think at this stage you are probably best to encourage her to audition but with the assurance that she is merely keeping her option...

Re: Auditioning for 2021 entry

"sadly at our dance school they put too much emphasis on the 'dada' award....when in reality some have to self fund as they are ineligible, so when 3 girls previously went to Laine a big hoo ha was made about the girl with the dada offer even though the other two couldn't actually apply as thei...

Re: Auditioning for 2021 entry

If it helps, I'm not sure that the students themselves ever really know where they 'rank' on the list. The colleges will offer a batch of DADA's initially - they know how big their pot of money is and how many students they can cover fully for DADA requirements and then more will be offered as forms...

Re: Anyone dealing with unenthusiastic Dads???

As Islands has already said, you do not get UCAS points for the Trinity Diploma as it is a level 6 and classed as higher education. A BA or BSC degree is also classed as a level 6 on the scale that compares educational qualifications. Student finance is in theory only available for the first higher ...

Re: Foundation course 18yo UC and child related benefits

I read it the same way as you - that you should still be able to claim child benefit for her but I imagine that you will have to make a phone call to get it sorted out as otherwise they will probably just stop it assuming she is leaving full time education (secondary school/sixth form level). Our ci...

Re: Lesser known performing art 6th forms

the Hammond in Chester take students at 16 to do the Trinity level 6 diploma in both dance and musical theatre if your DD is at the required level. At Hammond you can still do 2 A levels alongside the diploma if you wish (limited choice of subjects) and it is timetabled so that students do not miss ...

Re: Any tall female dancers out there (5’10”)

Spoke to my DD about this - professional dancer since graduating in 2015. Her belief is that your DD's height should not be an issue for colleges providing she is not applying for classical ballet schools and providing she has good control over those long limbs as they know that there is a job marke...

Re: Auditioning for 2021 entry

My DD applied for 6 colleges as that felt a manageable amount, a few years ago now so she did all her auditions in person. I would encourage you to advise your DD to try and keep an open mind about favourites. My DD went into it all with a clear favourite and a good idea of her 2nd choice. Following...

Re: Has COVID changed your DC training/career plans?

Not put off at all. DD secured a 6 week temporary job after her last dance contract finished in Feb, just for a bit of income before her next contract starting early June (obviously cancelled/postponed). She was furloughed from said temporary job and then when her workplace opened up offered another...

Re: Auditioning for 2021 entry

I suspect auditions will start later than usual for 2021 entry. I know that a number of vocational ballet schools put out a joint statement a month or so ago to say that they had all agreed to start the audition process in January (rather than the usual November) - included ENB, The Hammond, Tring, ...

at college my daughter had a black circular skirt , no ribbons. It was made by Mirella and I'm pretty sure I got it from Dance direct online.

Re: Bird Reserve List

I'm glad that Bird and many other schools are offering hope to the students of Ballet West. I think it must be devastating to have your school close on you 1 or 2 years into your course. re LSC - I've read on another forum that the cancellation of the Fda Dance Performance course (which has a ballet...

Re: Auditioning for 2021 entry

KS Dance (Warrington) and Preston Dance College are the two that spring to mind for those aiming to go into teaching (dance). Obviously you could also look at the degree courses offered by RAD in London. Urdang, Bird, The Hammond , Bodyworks Cambridge, Northern Ballet, Elmhurst Ballet, Trinity Laban...

Re: Bird Reserve List

You can accept more than one DADA and then hold onto them as you decide between them. Schools report back as far as I am aware with a list of who they have given DADAs to and from end of June/July time, if you are still holding onto more than one DADA you will be contacted and asked to make a decisi...

Re: After training

I think that final year of training was perhaps the most stressful time of it all as they really are facing the unknown once college finishes. My DD did not train in London but in Chester -I think about 3/4 of them had agents following the agent showcase. Not all chose to go with an agent, including...
