I sent you a reply, Humph, but it says it's in my Outbox - no idea why. Have you seen it? Is your Inbox full?

Re: NYT

My son did the Intake course four years ago - he was 14, so I was a bit alarmed that he was going to be living in uni-type accommodation with four other boys, and they were responsible for their own food etc. but he had an absolute ball and said the course itself was the most challenging and interes...

Re: Performing children and SATs

DS was in Matilda during SATS - it was the only time allowed off from the show.

Re: We have new headshots - how do we choose?

I often felt DS was the very worst person to choose his headshots, followed closely by me in second place. Can someone who doesn't know her help you to narrow down the selection? Or the photographer or her agent?

Re: Child licensing question

Does the dress rehearsal count as a day worked for licensing purposes?

Re: Dd is giving up!

DS also has decided he doesn't want to perform. After a couple of good years (in WE Matilda, lead in NYMT, Michael in WE Billy Elliot, and NYT), his voice broke. He tried to get screen work for a couple of years, had several recalls but never got the part and became frustrated - less with the reject...

Re: National youth theatre

My DS did the NYT three years ago, when he was 14, which I think is the youngest they can apply. The first year they get in (whether they're 14 or 24) they do what's called an 'Intake' course - two weeks, 14-18 or 18+ - where the focus is on the work, not on a show, though we did get to see a 10-min...

You don't normally hear back at all for screen castings unless it's a yes. It's frustrating, I know, but the only way to keep your sanity is to move on after each one and assume that's the end of it.

Re: Matilda Tour London Callback

Yes they did say that you're right, but realistically would she want to live away full time for that long? Possibly with just a few other children and probably very limited home visits in that time :-(. Week on and week off for the tour would be different - hard work for parents getting the chn the...

People go very quiet when it's a yes - there are very strict rules about sharing the information before it's announced in the press.

Re: Passing the time

I used to sit and read or work (or doze off) in the basement at the Curzon cinema on Shaftestbury Avenue, with its very comfy sofas - it's busy early on, but never seems to be later on. I saw a lot of films at the Prince Charles, as it's cheap, especially if you become a member, which only cost £10/...

Re: Medical insurance

I have Aviva healthcare (through work, so I don't know how it compares cost-wise etc. or what the benefits are like compared to other providers) but for anything joint or muscular-skeletal, they have a direct 'Back to Better' service where you call up and can see a physio without going via your GP.

Re: Expectations from Agencies

If your agent hears, I'm sure they'd pass that on, but even a that is unusual, unfortunately. And if it's annoying for kids, consider how much more frustrating it is for adults, who are trying to make a living, pay bills. There's a movement called Give Us A No, who are campaigning to address this - ...

Re: RKA

DS was with them for a while. He had a slow but steady stream of castings, not loads, but the ones he had seemed appropriate and they were always lovely to deal with. For self-tapes, they were also happy for him to go in and they'd do them if there was time, which was helpful. DS never actually got ...
