Re: Performing arts 6th form colleges

My dd went to The Big Act in Bristol: http://www.thebigact.com/

It was a few years ago for her now and she did their one year Foundation course. Since then they now offer a variety of different courses at age 16+ and 18+ and have tutors from the top colleges and West End.

Re: Auditioning for Sept 2019

Just to add that Summer Schools can be great but won't affect the end result. When my dd auditioned she had never done any Summer Schools except local Ballet ones. She also didn't do A levels or BTECs. From age 16-18 she went to a local private dance college and danced full time in her first year an...

Re: Leaving home essentials !

Also, an A4 4 ring binder for singing - Bird are hot on this! Dd says they are hard to find.

Re: Leaving home essentials !

We got dd an electric clothes dryer and cover from Lakeland. It's been great to dry clothes during the winter months and doesn't use much electricity. Even dd's flatmate's parents bought one for their ds. Dd also recommends a memory foam mattress topper for your bed. A computer or laptop for researc...

Re: hearing from Bird

Hi, My dd got a reply about 2 weeks after her audition with an offer of a Diploma place but no funding. We accepted her place and I added she wouldn't be able to take it without funding. She heard again by phone at the beginning of June offering her a DaDA. She's now in her 2nd year at Bird and lovi...

Dd2 was on the Reserve list for funding for Bird last year. Her DaDA offer came through on 2nd June last year.

Re: Best value Foundation courses?

The Big Act - it was more expensive for dd2 than £1200 as The Big Act have only just started doing the BTEC (September 2015) and dd2 was 17 so couldn't do the BTEC as she was part time. She still had private singing classes plus dance, acting and singing (group) over 2 full days, performed at Move I...

Re: Best value Foundation courses?

Dd2 did a Foundation course over a BTEC as she was working at RAD Adv2 Ballet and ISTD Adv 1 Tap and Modern. The Foundation course meant she kept her dance level high whilst working on her weaker aspects of acting and singing. Her Foundation course tutors were from Bristol Old Vic, Bird, GSA, London...

Re: Urdang Recalls - Diploma / Degree

Dd2 had a recall for Urdang last year. Her email letter was incredibly badly worded and at her recall she was informed that she had been considered for the Foundation! She had received 5 Diploma offers at that point so was really surprised :( If we had known beforehand we would not have paid £75 for...

Re: Best value Foundation courses?

Depends on what area you are looking at and if you need accommodation. My dds went to The Big Act - it's only been running for a few years but is definitely up and coming. Here's the link:

Re: Auditioning for 2017

No, we had not viewed accommodation (although I had googled potential properties in various areas just to get an idea of possible costs). Dd saw that there was a vacancy to share a house with 3 second years and 1 other first year on the Freshers page so that's how she got her accommodation. She plan...

Re: Auditioning for 2017

My dd auditioned for Bird last year and was offered a non-funded place. We accepted the place and I added a note to add that she would only be able to accept the place if she had funding. Dd had a phone call on the 3rd June last year offering her a DaDA and she's now in her first year and loving it ...

Re: Auditioning for 2017

Hi Belledancer - the Foundation place was from Urdang- but not until dd2 went to the recall audition and did one dance class followed by the interview (she hadn't done her monologue or song at that stage) was told that she had been recalled for the Foundation :( She wouldn't have gone if she had kno...
