Re: Renowned dance school/companies

A small word of caution... A 45 minute drive each way doesn't seem a lot, but it will soon become a real bugbear when your dc is dancing several evenings a week. It also makes it difficult to fit in homework or a proper evening meal and it will also be very draining - for you as well as the dancer. ...

Re: Foot Flexers

If your dd would really like to improve her arch then the best thing would be a theraband, and do exercises with that. The other thing that is recommended is strengthening exercises - tendus, and lots of them! Make sure she 'pushes away from the floor' and make sure she isn't clenching her toes as w...

Re: Foot Flexers

Those hyper-flexible 'banana' feet that everyone seems to want are actually not a strong foot construction. They are a result of natural bone structure in the ankle joint and the shape of the bones in the feet. There isn't a whole lot you can do to change that other than to stretch the ligaments tha...

Re: Foot Flexers

Why does your dd want one?

It might be worth checking with her dance teacher - she's a bit too young to be using anything like this unsupervised and it could do more harm than good.

Maybe think about getting a balance board or a turnboard instead.

Re: Emil Dale academy and Bodem performing arts college

It would be pretty unusual for a performing arts college to not do ballet at all, have you checked with them?

Perhaps the best thing to do would be to contact the school direct and ask?

Re: confusion between different boards

As far as I am aware, Adv 2 (certainly for RAD ballet at least) is a Level 4 qualification, so you don't get UCAS points for it, it is too high a level.

Re: confusion between different boards

ISTD isn't harder than RAD, it is just slightly different and they have different grade boundaries. RAD goes up to Grade 8, and ISTD goes up to Grade 6, so the grades aren't an exact equivalent. The work covered in each grade differs a bit as well, and ISTD contains more unset 'free' work. Also, RAD...

Re: *Newbie - First Time Post*

Hi there, no experience in the drama/MT side of things, but the main thing at her age is that she is enjoying what she is doing and having fun (and there is still other time left for family life and just 'being a kid')! When it comes to ballet, she's better sticking to either one syllabus or another...

Re: Difficult situation - what do I do?!

I think there are two completely different issues here. No 1 - your mum needs to get a better solicitor. She can't be forced into accepting a 50/50 split and she could well be entitled to much more than that. No 2 - you need to find out if you qualify for full student loan/maintenance loan if you do...

Re: Italia Conti

How does your dd feel about the place herself? She will have had the chance to get an impression of what it is like there, and whether she feels like it is the right 'fit' for her. To be honest, her gut instinct would be the thing to take account of - when my dd auditioned in last year's rounds ther...

Re: Is dancing once a week good enough?

Perhaps you could ask your DD's dance teacher for advice, and to see whether there are any other suitable classes she might be able to join during the week?

I think they have one-day workshops which might go up to 18, not sure of the dates though.

Re: summer schools

Tring Park School has one, 7-12 Aug for ages 10-16. No experience of their MT courses, but the dance ones are very good.
